Customs and traditions differ from one part of Nepal to another. A conglomeration lies in capital city Kathmandu where cultures are blending to form a national identity. Kathmandu Valley has served as the country’s cultural metropolis since the unification of Nepal in the 18th Century. A prominent factor in a Nepali’s everyday life is religion. Adding color to the lives of Nepalis are festivals the year round which they celebrate with much pomp and joy. Food plays an important role in the celebration of these festivals.

Nepal Climate:
The climate in Nepal varies from subtropical in the lowlands to a cold high-altitude climate in the mountains. The country experiences 5 different seasons: summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring. During winter, the Himalayas block the cold air, causing it to be quite warm south of the Himalayas. However in the Himalayas the winter season has cold to extreme cold temperatures and snowfall.
October – November (autumn) and Mid February – May (spring) are considered the best times of the year to travel to Nepal. The monsoon will have just ended and clear skies with optimal temperatures prevail. In March and April southern Nepal has mostly spring-like to summer weather, with temperatures between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius (71.6 – 86 degrees Fahrenheit), a low chance of precipitation and plenty of sun.
Between the winter months of December and mid-February the amount of tourists will decrease a little. It becomes more busy again between mid-February and May. From mid-June to early October, it’s the monsoon, during which it rains almost everyday and most of the Himalayas are hidden behind the clouds.
During the monsoon some parts of the country can not be reached due to flooding. The mountain paths are generally slippery during this rainy season and often people have to wade through rivers and rice fields.
