Himachal means the “snowy slopes” which comes out from Himalaya, which means “Abode of Snow”. Himachal, which nestled in the heart of Western Himalaya offering a multi-textured display of lofty snow-clad mountains, deep gorges, thickly forested valleys, large lakes, terraced fields, and cascading streams. Himachal is dotted with many beautiful hill stations and is one of the favorite places of British before independence and Shimla is considered as the summer capital. Himachal Pradesh is also a home of Dalai Lama and many Tibetan’s who escaped Tibet during the invasion of Chinese and settled in the upper town of Dharamshala which is a true “global village” which attracts people from all over the world not only to visit the Dalai Lama residence but also the beauty of the natural surroundings, the warmth of the people, the wisdom of the Tibetan and Indian spiritual traditions. Dharamshala also offers many trekking routes and one of the famous treks are Triund trek and Gaddi trails.

Himachal Pradesh is gifted with natural biodiversity with one region full of greenery and vegetation on one side of Rohtang pass is Manali which is the gateway for many trek routes and also famed amongst the Honeymooners and on the other side, Rohtang is a dry and cold desert landscape. Actually, Rohtang pass act like a barrier which does not allow the monsoon to come over the other side and therefore the other side of the pass is dry and deserted. This cold desert area is known as “The Spiti valley” which means the “middle land”. This is the land is in the middle of Tibet and India as it is one of the important trade routes. Spiti valley is dominated with Buddhist culture and with the dominating Buddhist tradition one can see the bridges with the flattering praying flags, on the roadside, the Mani stone walls and most eye-catching is the monasteries. The key monastery is one of the finest examples of Buddhist architecture which is over a thousand years old and is also the largest monastery to be found in the entire Spiti Valley.
