Finnair will launch a new direct route from Helsinki to Mumbai, India, with the first flight set to take off on 6 August.
Flights on an A330 aircraft will initially operate three times a week, and will increase to four times weekly in November as the carrier looks to restore its long-haul network to Asia following the pandemic.
The Mumbai route is the carrier’s second service to India, adding to its daily flight to New Delhi.
Finnair general manager for India Sakari Romu said: “Our three-weekly flights serve our customers not only in providing a connection to Finland but also to our network in the US and major European cities”.
Flights will depart Helsinki at 17:55 and arrive into Mumbai at 05:15 the following morning. The return flight departs the Indian city at 07:10, arriving into Finnair’s home at 14:05.
According to the carrier, services have been “specifically timed” to allow for “easy connections”.
Finnair’s network reboot plans have been disrupted by the closure of Russian airspace following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine earlier this year, however the airline’s June traffic figures suggest a “moderate” impact on Asia traffic as the region continues to ease long-standing travel restrictions.
Asian passenger numbers in June increased by 651 per cent year-over-year to 72,600. In North Atlantic traffic, passenger numbers increased by 975 per cent to 81,700 – a new record according to the airline, while European traffic increased by 390 per cent year-over-year to 757,100.
