Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand a state which nestled on the southern slope of the Himalayan range with the highest peak in state is Mt. Nanda Devi 7817 mts. This small state which comes into existence in November 2000 is mainly known for its pilgrimage sites like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Rishikesh, Haridwar and many more and because of its spiritual importance it the name “Devbhomi – The land of God”.

Uttarakhand is divided into two regions one is Garhwal and other is Kumaon. Both lie in one State but are very much different in customs and tradition and even the language is also very different which make Uttarakhand more interesting. In one state you can see the different culture and traditions.

Besides the spiritual experience Uttarakhand also offers various recreations and adventure activities that one can really relish while staying in Uttarakhand:

White River Rafting: Uttarakhand is the land of the holy river and amongst them, the Ganges is the holiest. Rafting in the Ganges is not only admired by the Indian but also from all over the Globe. Besides the Ganges, one can also enjoy rafting in Yamuna, Alaknanda and Tons rivers in Garhwal region and Kosi, Sarayu, Ramganga and Kali rivers in Kumaon.

National Pars and Sanctuary: Uttarakhand is bestowed with one of the oldest National park in India “Corbett National park” which does not need any introduction it is well known to spot Royal Bengal tiger and Asiatic elephant, on the other hand, is also gifted with its unique flora and fauna. Bird watching and fishing are also one of the highlights of the park.

Rajaji National park sprawl in 820 sq km is well known for Asiatic elephant. It is the second tiger reverse after Corbett and 48 in India. Nearly 400 species of birds are found here. One can also enjoy the safaris here.

Valley of flowers is one the world heritage site in Uttarakhand which also well renowned all over the world. This National is booted with rare and exotic Himalayan flora. The Valley of Flowers is a bouquet of nature peacefully snuggled in the West Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. This place is a paradise for a botanist. Nestled at an altitude of 3658 meters and spread over 87 sq km.

The other sanctuary which attracts lots of tourists is Bisar wildlife sanctuary which is also known for bird watching.

Yoga and recreation: in all our scriptures it is written that the holy men or a Sadhu or a person want to meditate or to worship a God all came to the Himalayas. This makes this land perfect for yoga. Rishikesh is the World yoga capital and every year Rishikesh celebrated Yoga week. Beside Rishikesh, there are many other locations known for their tranquillity which is required for meditation and to search inner you.

Trekking: Uttarakhand offers many offbeat treks which do not only lure the trekkers for their beauty but also connect the roots of the area by mingling with the local and understand their way of living. From Garhwal to Kumaon Uttarakhand offers the various treks that are categorized under easy, moderate and strenuous grade and attracts both amateur and professional trekker as well.
